The Hague, Oct 15 (IANS) Dutch Foreign Minister Uri Rosenthal Friday apologised to Italian Ambassador to the Netherlands Franco Giordano over a journalist’s objectionable remark about Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi which had offended the latter a day ago, Xinhua reported.

Giordano had stormed out of the opening of an exhibition on the Etruscan people at the Allard Pierson Museum in Amsterdam Thursday, after a local broadcaster correspondent compared Italian Prime Minister Berlusconi to the sex-obsessed Etruscan kings, Xinhua reported.

Calling the incident “annoying,” Rosenthal said he was “sorry that the ambassador of a country of friends felt compelled to leave”.

The apology was made to prevent a potential row between the two countries.

Eberhard van der Laan, mayor of Amsterdam, had already apologised Thursday for the incident.
