Nepal army plane crashes
October 19th, 2011 - 1:16 am ICT by IANSKathmandu, Oct 18 (IANS) Nepal army’s missing plane with six people on board was confirmed to have crashed Tuesday evening, Xinhua quoted an army spokesman as saying.
The plane bound for Kathmandu from the local city Nepalgunj, was out of contact since 7.05 p.m. and crashed at the remote Dhorpata area of the Baglung district, some 180 km west of the Kathmandu valley, said Ramindra Chettri, the Nepal Army’s spokesman.
Talking to Xinhua, Chettri said that a team of Nepal Army officials, police personnel and locals have moved from Dhorpatan to the site.
Chettri said there was no confirmation if the people on board had died, as nobody has been able reach the accident site so far.
“The night vision helicopters that were about to fly from Kathmandu could not take off due to the weather so local officials in the area have been deployed for the rescue efforts,” Chettri said.
This is the second crash in Nepal in a month. On Sep 25, an air crash in the Kathmandu valley left all 19 people on board the plane dead.
