Washington, Apr 24 (ANI): Naval Training Center Great Lakes is employing computer-based 3D simulations to measure individual performance and help recruits prepare for on-board training and damage control measures.

The first-person game emphasises on operational skills relating to flood, fire control and preventing casualties aboard ship, Fox News reports.

“A lot of my shipmates loved it. We didn’t want to stop playing,” one of the recruits said, adding that the game reminds her of the popular game Fallout 3, where the mission is to protect Washington from a nuclear blow in a bleak and distant future.

The 3D virtual training system has been released by the Office of Naval Research (ONR) in Arlington, Virginia.

“It catches things like reminding you to close water-tight integrity doors behind you, making sure the ship stays afloat,” a recent boot camp graduate said.

Dr. Ray Perez, a program officer at office of Naval Research (ONR), reports the recruits are performing at high levels quicker and stronger because of the system.

“Playing this game 15 to 30 minutes, depending on the student, prior to practicing on a full-scale ship, they not only completed the tasks 50 percent faster, and they performed them 50 percent better,” he added. (ANI)
