New York, Aug.28 (ANI): Buoyed by back-to-back wins over Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal in Toronto two weeks ago, British tennis champion Andy Murray is looking forward to snaring his first Grand Slam at this year’s US Open beginning next week.
He also appears far more concerned about the poor form of his Dream Team - for England football.
“Most nights I stay in my hotel and work on my fantasy football team. The first week of the season went well - but the second week was bad. I’ve got Wayne Rooney, who missed Manchester United’s last match, Jon Carew, who missed a penalty - and some other Aston Villa players who got spanked by Newcastle. But I’ve also got Arshavin, Lampard, Malouda and Arteta. So it’s not all bad,” The Sun quoted Murray, as saying.
Murray, 23, insists he is in the best shape of his life as he returns to Flushing Meadow, and could meet Federer again in the semis in New York - and world No 1 Nadal in the final.
“My preparations have been pretty much perfect. I’ve just won my first tournament of the year and in terms of fitness it’s the best I’ve ever felt going into the US Open. Now it’s just a case of managing my body right over the next few days,” he said.
World No 4 Murray kicks off his campaign against Slovakian Lukas Lacko in the first round. (ANI)
