Murali set to play domestic 20-20 cricket for Kiwi side Wellington
April 3rd, 2011 - 5:30 pm ICT by ANIColombo, Apr. 3 (ANI): If as the country’s media slammed the selectors for the poor choice of players for the World Cup final against India, which the latter won by six wickets on Saturday night, a web site has reported that spin wizard Muttiah Muralitharan will play domestic cricket in New Zealand.
The off-spinner, who is the leading wicket taker in the world in both Tests and ODIs, played his last one-day international game in the World Cup final against India.
According to sportal.com, Muralitharan will play two seasons of domestic cricket for Wellington, most probably in New Zealand’s Twenty20 competition.
Muralitharan, a former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) player, had promised CSK coach and former New Zealand skipper Stephen Fleming that he will play for Wellington.
The spinner, however, said he was not sure when the contract would be inked.
“It’s up to Fleming to put through a deal for me. I have always enjoyed playing there. You have nice, friendly people and a competitive cricket team,” he said. (ANI)
