Mum who fails to toilet-train kids loses custody
July 15th, 2011 - 2:30 pm ICT by IANSSydney, July 15 (IANS) An overprotective Australian mother who did not toilet-train her two kids, has lost their custody to their father.
The woman kept her son in nappies until well past his fifth birthday, the Herald Sun reported.
She did not toilet-train her two children as she could not bear to watch them grow up, an Australian court heard Friday.
The judge at the family court found that if the two children were to live with their mother, they would have no relationship with their father. This would expose them to emotional harm due to her inability to let them become independent and develop normally.
The kids’ father, who has been given children’s custody, told the court that he believed the mother had not toilet-trained the children, aged five and almost four, because she could not bear to have them grow up.
He told the court the elder child would not even feed himself, as he requires to be hand-fed.
The mother, however, claimed the kids wore nappies only when they were leaving the house. But Justice Garry Watts said he did not believe the children had been toilet-trained in the conventional sense.
Justice Watts, in a judgment published this week, gave the father sole parental responsibility, giving the mother only supervised time until next February.
The parents have been ordered to ensure the children are fully toilet-trained.
