Most Chinese view Sino-US ties as “very-important” : Poll
January 17th, 2011 - 3:18 pm ICT by ANIBeijing, Jan 17 (ANI): Nearly 50 percent of Chinese participating in a survey organised jointly by the China Daily and Horizon Research Consultancy Group believe that ties between Beijing and Washington is “very important” despite the problematic situations that existed between the two countries in the recent past.
About 54.3 percent of the respondents said they regarded Sino-US ties as “very important”, more than double the 26 percent in 2009, Xinhua reports.
Nine in 10 (90.9 percent) respondents viewed the relationship as “important”.
“The U.S. in Chinese Eyes”, also revealed that Chinese people have a negative attitude towards the US due to political and economic disputes.
Although almost seven in 10 (69.9 percent) believe that on the commercial front, most are of the opinion that China made a greater contribution than the U.S. in handling the global financial crisis and in combatting climate change.
Horizon has noted changed in the response in surveys conducted from 2001 to 2009. During this period Chinese people viewed Washington as a major threat, though this trend changed to an extent from 2006, as a large number of respondents saw Japan in that light.
In a 2009 survey, over one third (35.3 percent), viewed the US and China’s security partner. (ANI)
