Most Britons consider man-made climate change ‘current or imminent threat’: Poll
February 1st, 2011 - 7:27 pm ICT by ANILondon, Feb 1 (ANI): The burning issue of a man-made climate change has alarmed Britons so much that 83 percent consider it a current or imminent threat, according to a Guardian/ICM opinion poll.
The Guardian quoted the survey as saying that only 14 percent of Britons believe that a danger of global warming poses no threat.
Compared with August 2009, when the same question was asked, opinion remained steady despite a series of events in the intervening 18 months that might have made people less certain about the dangers of climate change, the paper said.
Over the 18-month period between the ICM polls, the proportion of people saying climate change is not a current threat rose by just 3 percent and was balanced by a 3 percent rise in those saying it is a threat.
The UK has witnessed two unusually cold winters in 2009 and 2010, and this led three times more people saying that the freezing weather had actually made them worry more about global warming.
Sixty-eight percent of Britons also blamed human beings as responsible for causing climate change, while only 24 percent choose to blame non-man-made factors. (ANI)
