More than one in five Britons never eat at the table
April 12th, 2010 - 12:17 pm ICT by ANILondon, Apr 12 (ANI): Around 20 percent of Britons don’t eat food at the table and 85 per cent admit to snacking mindlessly, a research has found.
The 85 percent respondents who admitted to ‘unconscious eating’, blamed boredom for the trigger, reports The Telegraph.
The fourth spot went to TV watching as the trigger point for unconscious eating (35 percent), while snacking in a bid to cheer themselves up came in fifth (25 percent).
The next common reason was eating on the weekends (20 percent) while in seventh place was people enjoying ‘me time’ (18 percent).
The Jenny Craig weight management programme carried out the poll of more than 1,000 people.
Obesity expert and GP Ian Campbell said: ‘Being aware of what and how much we eat is essential to weight management.
‘Too often people get the balance wrong - the key to a healthy balanced diet is to be mindful about our eating.’
Karen Barber, nutritionist for the programme, said: ‘From our experience unconscious eating is one of the most common challenges our personal weight management coaches manage with our clients.’ (ANI)
