More Americans want a new president than Obama to be re-elected: Fox News poll

Barack Obama Washington, Apr.8 (ANI): A Fox News poll has revealed that forty eight percent of American voters think the country would be better off with a new president. Only 44 percent think that Barack Obama deserves to be re-elected.

Obama had announced his 2012 re-election campaign on Monday.

The bump in Obama’s supporters comes mainly from the 78 percent Democrats who now think he deserves to be re-elected compared to the 67 percent who thought so in December. About one in six Democrats (16 percent) think a new President should be elected.

Among the Republicans 83 percent don’t think Obama deserves a re- election and 51 percent of the independents also feel the same.

Forty percent of voters approve of how Obama is handling the economy, 41 percent approve of his efforts towards job creation and 42 percent approve of the way he is handling the Libyan crisis.

Over all, 49 percent of voters approve of the President’s job performance and 47 percent disapprove, Fox News reports.

One thing that could be helping in generating support for Obama and dampening the Republican enthusiasm for the 2012 campaign is the absence of a specific opponent and also the disappointment in potential prospects from the Republican side.

Fifty percent of the Republicans and 53 percent of conservatives say they are unimpressed with the Republicans who have expressed an interest in challenging Obama.

More than seven in 10 independents (72 percent) also say they are not impressed with potential 2012 Republican contenders.

The Fox News poll is based on landline and cell phone interviews with 914 randomly chosen registered voters nationwide and was conducted under the joint direction of Anderson Robbins Research (D) and Shaw & Company Research (R) from April 3 to April 5. It has a sampling error margin of plus or minus three percentage points. (ANI)
