Money woes causing Brit women to put off having babies
November 11th, 2010 - 5:47 pm ICT by ANILondon, Nov 11 (ANI): A new research has shown that British women are increasingly putting off having babies because they can’t afford to start a family.
One in seven say they are delaying motherhood until their jobs are safe and the economy has improved.
Almost 90 per cent of Britons say they have more money worries this year than in 2009, with over two-thirds worse off by 250 pounds a month.
Thirteen per cent of couples are postponing wedding plans because of financial pressures.
More than half - 57 per cent - say they will be cutting back on Christmas spending, while others plan to take fewer holidays or nights out. A third are not using their mobile phones as much.
Around half of 1,000 people polled are struggling to pay their energy bills and 40 per cent have difficulty with the rent or mortgage.
Meanwhile, 45 per cent of workers now fear redundancy because of the economy.
“People’s wallets are being hit harder this year than last, despite the recession seemingly ending.” the Daily Express quoted Simon Terry, for online firm DiscountVouchers that carried out the research, as saying.
“And with January’s VAT increase and rising petrol and energy costs, things are going to get worse. Therefore, looking after your money has never been more important than right now,” Terry added. (ANI)
