LOS ANGELES (BNO NEWS) — A moderate earthquake rattled the U.S. - Mexico border on Thursday morning, seismologists said. There were no immediate reports of damage or casualties.

The 5.5-magnitude earthquake at 9.44 a.m. local time was centered about 45 miles (72 kilometers) southeast of El Centro, California, according to the West Coast and Alaska Tsunami Warning Center. It struck about 19.6 miles (31.5 kilometers) deep, making it a shallow earthquake.

The earthquake was felt as far away as San Diego in California and Yuma, Arizona, witnesses said. There were no immediate reports of damage or casualties.

Thursday’s earthquake is believed to be an aftershock to Sunday’s 7.2-magnitude earthquake. That earthquake left at least three people dead and dozens injured.
