Mirza-Mattek run halts in Pacific Life Open tennis

Indian Wells (California), March 22 (IANS) India’s Sania Mirza and her American partner Bethanie Mattek’s fine run in the $2.1 million Pacific Life Open came to an end as they lost to the Chinese pair of Zi Yan and Jie Zheng in the doubles semi-finals here. The seven-seeded Indo-American duo lost to the third seeded Chinese in a closely fought match 6-7(4) 7-5 10-5 Friday.

Yan and Zheng will now meet unseeded Russian duo of Dinara Safina and Elena Vesnina for a title clash who outplayed eight -seeds Daniela Hantuchova of Slovakia and Ai, Sugiyama of Japan, 6-3,6-4 in the semi-finals.
