Minor earthquake hits east of Oklahoma City, OK

OKLAHOMA CITY (BNO NEWS) — A minor earthquake struck east-northeast of Oklahoma City on late Sunday, seismologists said. There were no reports of damage or casualties.

The 3.0-magnitude earthquake at 11.04 p.m. local time was centered about 6 miles (10 kilometers) southeast of Luther, or 25 miles (40 kilometers) east-northeast of Oklahoma City. It struck about 3.1 miles (5 kilometers) deep, making it a shallow earthquake.

A 3.0-magnitude earthquake is described as minor. Some people may have felt it, but it is extremely unlikely to cause damage.

The earthquake follows a week of increased seismic activity. All - five - earthquakes struck the same area near Oklahoma City. A 2.3-magnitude earthquake happened on April 3, which was followed by a 2.2-magnitude earthquake about 20 minutes later.

On Thursday, a 3.2-magnitude earthquake struck about 13 miles east-northeast of Oklahoma City. And last Friday, a 4.4-magnitude earthquake was centered about 3 miles east-northeast of Spark. No damage was reported.
