Dec 12, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The Minneapolis Airport has been forced to close down its operations owing to inclement weather. The runways of the airport have got totally covered with snow and consequently flight landing and take-off is next to impossible. The blizzard is quite powerful and the incessant snowfall has thrown air traffic out of gear. As always the passengers are at the receiving end. The NFL players also bore the brunt of the weather to an extent. The New York Giants were expected to reach Minneapolis to play a game against the Vikings today. However, their flight from New York had to be diverted to Kansas City. The game will take place after all but the timing can get delayed.
The Minneapolis Airport authorities have asked the passengers who bought the tickets on various airlines for departure on Sunday and Monday to check the website for updated news on flight cancellation and delay. The tourists have been suffering ever since the blizzard began and now many of them are stranded at the airport. The airport management said in a statement that the airport had to be closed for the first time after Halloween way back in 1991. Delta Airline canceled more than 400 flights to various destinations in the USA owing to the airport closure though the customers were assured about re-booking.
A number of flights originally headed for the Minneapolis airport have been diverted to Kansas City after the blizzard jeopardized airport operations. The snow has also resulted in reduced footfall at the restaurants and hotels in Minnesota. The roads have also become slick and the cars drivers are finding it tough to avoid skidding off the roads.
