Kabul, Aug 2 (Xinhua) A newly-wed couple and their relatives were among 10 people killed Saturday when their minibus ran over a mine in Afghanistan’s southern province of Kandahar, an official said. The bus was carrying the bride and the groom, and some of their relatives at the time of the incident at around 2 p.m. in Spin Boldak district of the province, deputy provincial police chief Matiullah Khan said.

At least 10 people were killed and six injured in the blast. Taliban militants planted the mine days ago to target security forces, the official said.

Taliban militants have so far not claimed responsibility for the incident.

Of late, Afghanistan has witnessed a surge of Taliban attacks on the coalition forces and Afghan troops.

This year alone, around 2,500 people have been killed in insurgency-related violence in the war-torn country.
