July 23 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The General Mitchell Airport at 5300 South Howell Avenue in Milwaukee, WI was closed recently after it’s runways quickly became underwater by a flood which caused havoc for the city as well as it’s surrounding areas.

Torrential rains washed over Milwaukee and over a foot of rain feel within one day in the area. The floods which ensued caused the decision to shut the airport down after the runways were covered in rainwater. Officials soon made announcements which told travelers to get in contact with their airlines in order to find out whether their flights were cancelled and try and find other arrangements, if it was possible.

Air Tran, which is a main airline carrier in Milwaukee quickly revised their rules and gave passengers alternative reservations with no penalties. The passengers were required to make the new reservations within 5 days of the flooding incident yesterday.

The airfield, runways, and roads leading to the airport were all flooded, and the closing was due to last until this afternoon. Any travelers are asked to call 414-747-5300 before heading to the area to find out if their flights have been canceled and to be sure that traveling in the area is safe.
