GAZA CITY (BNO NEWS) — A militant group linked to al Qaeda on Saturday claimed that it has fired three mortars at a Israeli-controlled crossing in southern Gaza.

“The shelling is a response to the ongoing crimes of the Jewish enemy committed against our people and a response to the assassination of the two members of the Army of Islam,” a Gaza-based faction of the Iraqi group Ansar al-Sunnah said in a statement.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) on Friday said that it struck three alleged ‘terror sites’ in the Gaza Strip in response to a Grad rocket and ten mortar shells were fired at southern Israel.

The attack damaged a tanker truck, but no casualties or injuries were reported.

In response to the attack, the IDF said it targeted and reported direct hits on three ‘terror sites.’ There was no immediate word about casualties from the strikes in Gaza.

Since the beginning of 2010, more than 180 Grad missiles, Qassam rockets and mortar shells fired from the Gaza Strip have landed in Israeli territory.
