Militants fire at British embassy in Yemen
July 27th, 2010 - 11:00 am ICT by IANSSana’a, July 27 (IANS) Suspected Al Qaeda militants opened fire at the British embassy in the Yemeni capital of Sanaa late Monday, and fled the spot immediately, police said.
The gunmen fired a rocket-propelled grenade at the main gate of the British embassy from a vehicle and sped off on the main street in front of the embassy, the official said, but declined to comment on whether there was any casualty.
“Back-up security forces were immediately rushed to the scene to help protect the British embassy staff,” Xinhua quoted the official as saying.
On Sunday, six Yemeni soldiers guarding an Austrian oil company were killed when a group of suspected Al Qaeda gunmen attempted to raid the company in Shabwa.
