Islamabad, Jan 16 (IANS) British Foreign Secretary David Miliband Friday met his Pakistani counterpart Shah Mahmood Qureshi after his arrival here.”The focus of the discussions was on the investigations regarding the Mumbai attacks (of 26/11) and Pakistan’s response to the Indian statements,” said an official.
Miliband is to meet President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani and exchange views with them on several issues, including a joint investigation into the Mumbai attacks and ways to defuse India-Pakistan tensions.
Sources said the talks between Miliband and Pakistani leaders would focus on the tensions between the two neighbours as well as on the war on terror and the situation in Afghanistan.
The Pakistani leaders would also highlight the Israeli offensive in Gaza in their meetings, and urge Britain to use its influence to help resolve the issue to ensure peace in the Middle East, the sources said. The British foreign secretary will also interact with the media in Islamabad.
Miliband arrived in the Pakistani capital after a visit to India where he met top officials and discussed the terror strike.
