Middle East revolutions will not affect King’s rule in Jordan, says top diplomat.
February 15th, 2011 - 6:33 pm ICT by ANIAmman, Feb.15 (ANI): Jordanian Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh has said, that the recent revolutions that rocked Egypt and Tunisia will certainly not affect the king’s rule in Jordan.
According to him, the recent waves of revolution that emerged in Arab and Muslim states will not affect Jordan, where King Abdullah II recently sought to quell unrest by dismissing most of his cabinet.
“We were having demonstrations in Jordan back in the late 19th century, early 20th century, before it became fashionable, he told Fox News in an interview.”
Judeh said “It’s part of a vibrant, dynamic, democratic society…You correct the system every once in a while. But what makes us so comfortable here is that you have the head of state, the king, who whips the system back into shape when he sees that the democratic process is faltering or going off track”.
