Michelle Obama’’s evening inaugural gown designer rises to fame
January 22nd, 2009 - 4:59 pm ICT by ANI New York, January 22 (ANI): Little would have Jason Wu known that by the evening of the Inauguration Day, he would have become a household name, all thanks to Michelle Obama who chose to don his dress for an inaugural ball.
The First Lady wrapped herself in Wu’’s white chiffon, one-shoulder gown at the inauguration night, which had prompted her President-hubby Barack to say: “First of all, how good looking is my wife?”
And now the 26-year-old, who bagged the Fashion Group International’’s Rising Star Award for women’’s ready-to-wear last year, has his name associated with the historical event.
The once-doll-designer revealed he did not even have the slightest idea that the mum-of-two, hailed by fashion experts, had selected his creation for her better half’’s big night.
“I found out when the whole world found out,” the New York Daily News quoted Wu as telling Us magazine.
“I said, ”It looks white. It looks like mine…” I had a box of pizza and I nearly fell over. I was sitting there with my friends, and they were screaming,” Wu added. (ANI)
