MIC President names deputy Palanivel as his successor

Kuala Lumpur, May 27 (ANI): Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC) President S. Samy Vellu has named his deputy G. Palanivel as his successor, when he steps down in September next year.
It has been reported that Palanivel, who was made a senator recently, would take over the reins of the party on or before September next year as per the MIC Constitution.
Vellu, who has been pressurized by certain quarters to quit his post as soon as possible, said MIC vice-president and Human Resources Minister, Dr. S. Subramaniam would be named as the party’s Deputy President.
“He (Palanivel) will become the acting MIC president when I step down,” said Vellu in an interview to Media Prima’s News Executive Director, Datuk Ahmad A. Talib.
“Samy Vellu said Palanivel, 61, a four-term Member of Parliament for Hulu Selangor before his defeat in the 2008 general election, was ready to take over the MIC leadership after his retirement,” reports The Star.
“I would assist Malaysian construction companies to seek opportunities in India and other countries,” said Vellu on his retirement plans.
On the challenges by sacked MIC Youth deputy chief V. Mugilan to oust him as the President through his so-called Anti-Samy Vellu Movement on May 30, Vellu said: “We will see how far he can go.” (ANI)
