MIC calls temple demolition in Shah Alam “act of treachery” by state government

Kuala Lumpur, Oct. 23 (ANI): Malaysian Indian Congress President S. Samy Vellu has lashed out at the Selangor state government for demolishing a Hindu temple in Shah Alam without taking the temple authorities into confidence or offering an alternative land for it.
The Star Online quoted Samy Vellu as saying that demolition of the Mathurai Veeran temple in Shah Alam was an “act of treachery” by the Pakatan Rakyat-led state government.
This is not the first incident of its kind. The state government had demolished the Sri Maha Kaliamman temple in Ampang last year, he added.
Despite submitting an appeal to the February 2009 notice sent by the Shah Alam Municipal Council, the Mathurai Veeran temple committee couldn’t stop the demolition of the temple.
“There were also no discussion with the temple committee and no recent notices given by the council. They just went ahead and demolished it,” Samy Vellu said.
Samy Vellu has sought an explanation from State Executive Councillor Dr. Xavier Jayakumar in this regarding, failing which the MIC would seek legal redress. (ANI)
