Mexican police arrest drug kingpin
April 13th, 2010 - 5:21 pm ICT by IANSMexico City, April 13 (IANS/EFE) The kingpin of the La Familia Michoacana drug organisation has been arrested in central Mexico, the Public Safety Secretariat has said.
Jose Manuel Cuevas Arias was arrested along with his two associates Monday.
The 31-year-old accused has been linked to the killings of at least four federal police officers in Morelia, the capital of Michoacan state.
He was responsible for alerting the cartel about army and police operations in the state.
La Familia Michoacana, which operates in Michoacan, the central state of Mexico, is considered the largest trafficker of synthetic drugs in Mexico.
