Mexico City, June 7 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The Mexican government’s fight against drug trafficking has moved to the next level with some drug cartels acquiring tanks. In just four years, nearly forty thousand Mexicans mostly civilians have been killed in the fight against drug cartels which was launched by President Felipe Calderon.

Mostly the fight is between rival drug cartels and the cartels with the government troops. Unfortunately some civilians are sometimes caught in the crossfire and they lose their lives as a result. Some security analysts say the cartels see the government as their biggest threat and as such they have acquired sophisticated weapons to fight the army.

One of such experts who is also a security advisor said that, “Organized crime has increased its firepower to move personnel and mount counter attacks against the army. This is the consolidation of an urban guerrilla war scenario.”

Two of such military tanks were seized by the Mexican army during a raid last Sunday. The military say the tanks have been used to fight the military in previous confrontations. The cartels’ strategy is always to stay one step ahead of the military to ensure survival.

The Mexican cartels have tough war in their hands because the US government is also actively involved in the fight against drug smuggling which most of the time take place on the border between the US and Mexico.
