Mexican cop kills three fellow officers, then self
December 15th, 2010 - 12:02 pm ICT by IANSCancun (Mexico), Dec 15 (IANS/EFE) An on-duty police officer killed three fellow officers and then himself in downtown Cancun, a resort city on Mexico’s Caribbean coast, an official said.Reports came in just after 1 a.m. of an attack on the police post on Acanceh avenue in Supermanzana 15, an upscale area in the resort city, Quintana Roo state Attorney General Francisco Alorsaid said Tuesday.
Indications are that officer Ignacio Alvarado Torres, who had been on the force for three years, entered the police post and shot fellow officers Fernando Medina Leon, Miguel Banuelos Martinez and Vanessa Gonzalez Martinez in the head while they slept, Alor said.
Investigators took the statement of a policewoman who was at the post and survived because she was in the restroom when Alvarado Torres entered the facility.
“We are investigating this case and we have suspicions that it may be related to other criminal incidents in the past few days,” Alor said, without providing additional details.
Two people were murdered inside a packed seafood restaurant Sunday in Cancun and a police patrol car was attacked with a grenade a couple of hours later, police said.
A homeless man found the dismembered body of a woman inside a cave Monday afternoon.
