273608220-01212642Chicago, Feb 2, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The Metra Train service was badly affected by the blizzard in Chicago on Tuesday and the inclement weather condition made things tougher for the motorists as well. Owing to the weather warning issued by the weather office many commuters tried starting for work in advance but the efforts did not prove to be much successful. The roads turned slick and this led to traffic snarls in many areas. The rush hour traffic came to a standstill in some places. As a result the commuters gathered at the Metra train stations in huge numbers. The rail staff found handling the added passengers tough but they put in their best efforts. The authority made frequent announcements and deployed extra staffs. However, all these efforts did not help the passengers much and they experience moderate delays at many stations throughout Tuesday.

On some routes of Metra train network trains were running two hour behind the schedules. The electronic track switching system also developed defects at this crucial time and this resulted in cancellation of trains in a number of routes. A Metra spokesperson reported that the system snags were caused mainly by the blowing snow. Metra authority said that the site will be updated as per the weather condition and the commuters will be updated about timing via twitter feed.

In another development a Metra train hit a car near Fulton Street at night. The car got damaged but no one was injured. It was nor clear whether this was caused by the foul weather conditions. After some time train services resumed in that route, reported Metra authorities.
