- London, Apr 3 (ANI): While most kids of her age love to go out and play, 7-year-old Elaina Smith found solving adults’ emotional problems on the radio to be a better pastime.
She became the youngest radio agony aunt after she replied to breakfast show host Andy Goulding’s request to listeners for advice for a woman going through a break-up.
The young girl called up the station and told the woman to go out bowling with friends and to drink a mug of milk.
Her solution proved so popular that she was given a weekly slot on the show, where she now counsels thousands of adult listeners.
Smith, who lives in Coventry, says that her advice is always “whatever comes into my head, and people like what I say,” and that she was inspired to help others after her cousin was bullied at school.
“I tried to help him and that made me want to help other people too,” the Daily Express quoted her as saying.
“When people tell me their problems on the radio, I think about it very hard and very deep down inside of me and then give them my answer.
“I always have an answer,” she said.
Goulding has revealed that adults respond well to the seven-year-old girl’s straight-talking attitude.
“The advice Elaina offers is laid-back and honest,” he said.
“We’ve been inundated with people emailing us with their problems since she’s been on our show.
“Within a minute of us broadcasting her first slot, a woman in hospital phoned in saying how much she enjoyed hearing the little girl’s voice. It really cheered her up,” he added.
Elaina’s mother Karen Harris, 31, recalled her daughter’s reaction when she first heard Goulding.
“Elaina told me she wanted to phone in so we called and I was surprised with what she came out with,” she said.
“She’s full of confidence and the advice just comes off the top of her head.
“I see a future for her in radio,” she added. (ANI)
