Hong Kong, July 25 (DPA) A meat supplier who stole a pig a day for two years and pocketed more than three million Hong Kong dollars ($384,600) from his employer was jailed for three years, a newspaper reported Saturday.
Lai Yiu-wa, 45, who pleaded guilty to two counts of theft and a charge of fraud, said he made 40,000 to 50,000 Hong Kong dollars a month for stealing the pigs and selling them to other suppliers, the South China Morning Post said.

Lai also made up to 700,000 Hong Kong dollars from the sale of pig entrails in a systematic theft spanning nearly four years from November 2003 to June 2007. He also pocketed more than one million Hong Kong dollars that were meant as payments from his company, where he was a director, to a transport firm.

In addition, he stole 280,000 Hong Kong dollars when he took the wages for a bogus employee he claimed to have employed.

Prosecutor Samantha Chiu said Lai was the only person responsible at his firm, Forever Profits Development, for buying livestock, arranging delivery of the animals to the slaughterhouse and delivering meat to supermarkets.

The deception was uncovered when the firm’s accountant discovered large discrepancies between total turnover and the profits made as well as the number of pigs that were purchased and the amount of meat received by butchers.
