New York, Sep 10 (ANI): American tennis legend John McEnroe believes World No 2 Andy Murray is over-training and playing too much.
The British star, who is still looking for his first Grand Slam title was beaten 7-5 6-2 6-2 by Croatia’s Marin Cilic in the fourth-round of the US Open.
“Murray had a couple of set points in the opening set and then the wheels came off completely. I want to know where was his energy?” The Sun quoted McEnroe, as saying.
“Murray has worked extremely hard on his game. But, my concern is he is over tennised and over-trained at this point,” he added.
Murray had spent the last 18 months training, to become one of the fittest players in tennis. McEnroe had even tipped Murray to win the title.
McEnroe now believes that Murray went overboard.
“Roger Federer has it worked in terms of what he does on his days off and Murray would be better slacking off. You don’t need to work that hard between matches,” McEnroe said. (ANI)
