London, July 28 (IANS) Beatles legend Sir Paul McCartney, who played at New York’s Shea stadium for the first time in more than 40 years, almost missed the performance. McCartney joined singer Billy Joel on stage in a farewell concert to the well-known baseball stadium which is set to be demolished, thesun.co.uk reports.

McCartney almost did not make it to the concert. He had to be rushed through New York traffic and had to be escorted by police to his performance. He finally made it at 11 p.m. Joel had already been on stage for two hours.

McCartney said: “I nearly didn’t make it. When the plane doors opened, police rushed me to the gig.”
