Massive landslide kills two, 145 missing in Columbia
December 6th, 2010 - 5:11 pm ICT by ANIBogota (Colombia), Dec 6 (ANI): A massive landslide has reportedly killed two persons and left around 145 others buried underground in northwestern Colombia.
According to Xinhua, a two-year-old girl is among the two persons dead.
Another seven people were injured after the landslide buried about 50 houses in the Medellin suburb of Bello, northwest of the Andean country.
Luis Alfredo Ramos, the governor of Antioquia, said the landslide was caused by intense rains in recent days.
“The rescue authorities has set up a command center to look for the missing people. In addition, other houses will be evacuated to avoid other incidents like this,” Ramos added.
The Colombian government has reportedly sent a letter to all diplomatic missions in Bogota asking for international aid to help the country cope with the unseasonal rains, which is forecast to continue till March 2011. (ANI)
