Chilpancingo (Mexico), May 31 (IANS/EFE) A mass grave containing at least 25 bodies was discovered in Mexico’s southern Guerrero state, officials said Sunday.
Guerrero has been plagued by drug-related violence in recent years. The bodies were discovered Saturday in San Francisco Cuadra area in Cacalotenango, near the Taxco city.

Some of the bodies were in advanced state of decay, while others were of people killed just hours earlier, officials said, adding more human remains could be at the site.

The mass grave is about 600 feet deep, making it difficult for officials to recover the bodies.

Army troops have been deployed to secure the site.

Mexico’s drug cartels, which have been battling for turf for years, frequently use mass graves to get rid of the bodies of slain enemies.
