New York, March 25 (IANS) Family of reggae legend Bob Marley is sorting out details with the Weinstein Co. because they have a policy of not licensing Marley’s music to any film or project where an actor portrays him. Tmz.com reports that this policy extends to the planned Weinstein adaptation of Marley’s wife Rita’s book “No Woman No Cry: my life with Bob Marley” even though she is an executive producer of the movie.

Matthew Frankel, the Weinstein’s spokesman, said: “We have great respect for the Marley family and we are in discussions to look at ways to mutually benefit both projects.”

Meanwhile Oscar winning director Martin Scorsese is set to make an unnamed documentary on Marley and has received the family’s blessings.

Marley’s son Ziggy said: “We believe that this project is the best way to represent our father’s life from his perspective and any other film project pertaining to our father will be empty without his music to support it.”
