Marine’s Anti-Obama Comments On Facebook Sparks Controversy

garry1San Diego, Apr 17, (THAINDIAN NEWS) A Marine in the US drew a lot of criticism upon himself when he made use of the networking site Facebook to post his comments on the health care policies designed by the US President Barack Obama. Sgt. Gary Stein was also invited to a talk show on a leading TV channel after the incident took place to share his views on the political ideas of President Barack Obama after he allegedly spoke against the President’s health care reform policies through Facebook.

Sgt. Gary Stein had to temporarily remove his account from Facebook after the incident as he was criticized from all quarters. The Camp Pendleton Marine said that he had discussed the matter with his seniors and had also taken the advice of an attorney who assured him that he had not done anything wrong. In fact his posts on the internet drew such huger attention that it raised the issue of “free speech” which every American is entitled to including the US Marine.

No charges have been pressed against the Sergeant as of yet, although the Marine Corps have warned Sgt. Gary Stein of the rules he should abide by as well as his responsibilities. The American Civil Liberties Union issued a statement on Wednesday saying that they were beside the Sergeant and will defend his right to freedom of speech.

Sgt. Gary Stein, 24 is a meteorologist in Camp Pendleton. His statement on the US President’s health care reforms drew widespread attention and at the same time also attracted the wrath of the Pentagon and many common people as well.
