Maria Sharapova finds pin-up tag strangeJune 23rd, 2008 - 3:23 pm ICT by ANI
London , June 23 (ANI): With three Grand Slam titles in her kitty and the looks to match, Maria Sharapova is certainly the cover girl for Tennis. But the Russian ace shuns the pin-up title bestowed upon her, insisting that she leads a dull life and finds the tile quite strange.
After standing victorious at the 2006 US Open and Australian Open at the start of the year, this blonde bombshell is now is vying for the upcoming Wimbledon title, on which she last laid her hands in 2004 at the age of 17.
Though his Florida based Tennis stunner has been a regular on fashion magazines, she will be wearing shorts instead of her trademark skimpy skirts at Wimbledon .
I dont need glamour to be happy. I lead a normal life. Less than 24 hours after losing in the French Open, I am in the supermarket deciding what to cook. Its strange for my friends when they see me on TV and in magazines because the person that they see on the red carpet is not the person they know, The Sun quoted her, as saying.
She added: The person my friends know is much more low-key than the person that everyone else sees. I dont need glamour and attention to be happy. Im very happy being settled and working my butt off and trying to win Grand Slams. I want my tennis to speak for everything.
Its always weird when I see my image on the cover of a magazine. Thats very, very strange. I remember for a while I had been getting a lot of praise from people but I never felt as though I deserved it until I had won Grand Slams and held the world No 1 ranking. And then I thought, OK, all that talk, I understand it now. (ANI)
