Maoists, UML, NC are major violators of code of conduct in Nepal: UNMIN ChiefApril 3rd, 2008 - 2:54 pm ICT by admin
Kathmandu, Apr 3 (ANI): The Maoists, the UML and the Nepali Congress are the major violators of the code of conduct, according to Chief of the United Nations Mission in Nepal (UNMIN) Ian Martin.
Speaking to reporters in Dhangadi on Wednesday, Martin said, The bigger parties are engaged in disrupting each others election meetings and are engaged in violence.
“There is a need for an all-party control committee to ensure that the parties run their respective campaigns peacefully. Maoists have been barring other parties from campaigning by deploying cadres of the Young Communist League (YCL) claiming the region was their base area, he added.
He also expressed concern over the Maoist guerrillas leaving their cantonments to get involved in polls campaign, but got assurance from the Maoist leaders that it would not happen in the future. (ANI)
