Maoists gun down two policemen in Chhattisgarh

- Raipur, Jan 14 (IANS) Two policemen were killed and a woman constable was missing in Chhattisgarh after Leftist guerrillas attacked a police team Wednesday, officials said.According to the police, the insurgents attacked the police team in a thickly forested area of Pakhanjoor, some 220 km south of here. Pakhanjoor lies in Kanker district of state’s southern restive mineral rich Bastar region.
Officials at police headquarters here said the militants opened indiscriminate fire on six cops riding motorcycles in a hilly stretch killing a police on the spot. The other succumbed to his injuries in a hospital.
The officials said three policemen who fled into forests following the attack returned to a police station but a woman constable was missing.
The attack occurred almost an hour before Forest Minister Vikram Usendi was scheduled to cross the forested area.
