June 3rd, 2010 - 7:14 pm ICT by ANILondon, June 3 (ANI): Shockingly, several Britons are amongst the foreigners rounded up by Yemen with regard to an investigation into their supposed Al Qaeda links. The group also inluced Frenchmen, Americans, Africans and Asians.
Al Qaeda’s Yemen branch has witnessed unrestrained growth, with the powerless security forces unable to contain them. The problem is compounded by the hotility of local tribes, some of whom support the Al Qaeda.
According to The Mirror, Yemen’s government has battled the militants under US pressure with the help of American aid, training and intelligence.
The Yemeni security officials said some of the recently detained foreigners are believed to have links with US underwear bomber Nigerian Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, while others have been found to be connected with American Yemeni radical cleric Anwar al-Awlaki who is believed to have inspired attacks on the US and is hiding in Yemen.
