New York, Jan 4 (ANI): Jorge Cruz, from Washington Heights, Manhattan has won the title of ‘Ultimate Couch Potato’ after sitting for 48 hours straight.

Cruz won the competition by sitting and snacking for 48 hours straight at the ESPN Zone in Times Square.

“You become one with the couch,” the New York Daily News quoted the 26-year-old as saying.

He broke the previous record of 19 hours to win the third annual veg-out contest.

“They’ll bring me free food to sit here and watch sports? I thought, ‘Sounds like a win-win’. I come here all the time anyway,” he added.

Four contestants took their spots in the sports bar’s recliners at 11a.m. on New Year’s Day, ready to watch the weekend’s sports smorgasbord on a wall of TV screens.

Cruz plans to give most of the prizes he won to friends and family.

He will give the flat-screen TV to his mother and the new recliner to his dad.

He wants to give his 500 dollars ESPN arcade voucher to the kids at the nonprofit where he volunteers, Patchwork of Young Leaders Society, because he had to miss their weekend march.

Cruz is planning to spend a big chunk of his 500 dollars food and beverage voucher to treat his close friend Michelle, to make up for missing her birthday.

However, he will make full use of the year of free cable himself, though.

He also plans to keep the trophy - topped with a real potato - for as long as it stays fresh. (ANI)
