Man jailed for killing mother for concert tickets
January 24th, 2012 - 11:56 pm ICT by IANSLondon, Jan 24 (IANS) A Chicago resident has been jailed for 40 years for brutally killing his elderly mother because she refused to buy him tickets for a concert.
The body of 39-year-old Robert Lyons’ mother Linda Bolek, 61, was found in their apartment in March 2008, the Sun reported.
Lyons, found guilty of first-degree murder in September 2011 after a six-day trial, beat his mother on the head with a Cognac bottle and stabbed her nine times in the back with two knives.
He also poured insecticide and drain cleaner on her body as she lay helplessly on the floor, before fleeing the scene. Police, however, caught Lyons at a restaurant a few hours later.
Prosecutors said the man killed her in a fit of rage after she rejected his pleas to arrange tickets to a pop event — the Avril Lavigne concert.
