Moscow, March 15 (IANS/RIA Novosti) An Azerbaijani man with a criminal record has been arrested for defrosting a morgue in Russia’s Vladivostok city, police said Thursday.

The 49-year-old suspect stole the pipes transmitting refrigerants to the body storage area to sell them as scrap metal.

The theft was discovered when temperature in the morgue rose above zero degrees Celsius, causing bodies to spoil.

Several corpses had to be buried immediately, said chief forensic expert Alexander Golubev.

The man, who was earlier jailed for hooliganism and sexually abusing a minor, faces up to five years in prison if convicted of theft.
