Man arrested in Colorado mall bomb attempt
April 27th, 2011 - 2:33 am ICT by BNO NewsDENVER, COLORADO (BNO NEWS) — A man on Tuesday was arrested for the attempted bomb attack at a mall in Colorado, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Denver Joint Terrorism Task Force informed.
Earl Albert Moore, 65, was arrested shortly before 7:30 a.m. local time in Boulder, Colorado, by the Boulder Police Department. His arrest came after a nationwide man hunt led by the FBI.
Boulder police spokesperson Kim Kobel said that a Starbucks manager called 911 after one customer identified Moore as the suspect in the failed bombing attempt. The ex-convict left the coffee shop but was detained in the parking lot.
Moore was wanted for the attempted placing of an explosive device at the Southwest Plaza Mall in Jefferson County. The attempted bomb attack took place on April 20 when a pipe bomb and two propane tanks were found after a fire started just before noon.
The suspect has an extensive criminal record. He was recently released from federal prison for a 2005 bank robbery in West Virginia. He has also been convicted for larceny, drug and reckless driving offenses.
The extensive investigation on the Southwest Plaza Mall incident was conducted in a joint effort by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), and the FBI in Denver.
The FBI said on Monday that through the course of the joint investigation, there was no discovery of any connection between the Southwest Plaza Mall failed bombing and the pipe bomb incident at Jefferson County School District.
