Lucknow, Oct 21 (IANS) A man was arrested from the city for supplying arms to a member of the radical social outfit Darsgah Jihad-o-Shahadath (DJS), police said Thursday.

Izhar Ahmed, a resident of Aminabad locality here, was arrested Wednesday from the Hussainganj area following a joint operation by Uttar Pradesh Anti Terrorist Squad (UPATS) and Ahmadabad Crime Branch, a statement issued by the police said.

Ahmed had supplied arms to one Viqar Ahmed, an active member of DJS, that were used in carrying out attacks on police personnel in Hyderabad in 2009 and 2010.

“Viqar also used the arms in bank robberies in Ahmedabad,” the statement added.

Viqar, who was arrested in July 2010, had allegedly shot dead a police constable in the old city of Hyderabad May 13 this year, five days before the third anniversary of Mecca Masjid blast.

Last year, on the second anniversary of the blast, a policeman was killed and another injured in a similar attack, when assailants opened fire on police at Falaknuma area of Hyderabad.

Ahmed has provided vital information that would help in the arrest of other members of the radical outfit, ATS officials said.
