Malaysian teacher issued memo for vulgar racial slurs against students
August 31st, 2010 - 2:49 pm ICT by ANIGeorge Town, Aug 31 (ANI): A Malaysian teacher has been issued a memo for racial slurs and using vulgar words against students during a pre-National Day celebration at a school in Bukit Jambul here.
The teacher had uttered foul language and made derogatory ethnic remarks to five secondary students during the incident.
He was upset because they were said to have worn their jippa, kurta and cheongsam with jeans instead of wearing the complete traditional outfits for the celebration.
State Education Department director Ibrahim Mohamad said the teacher had been issued a memo, The Star reports.
“The school has also warned him not to repeat his actions,” he said, adding that the school was arranging a meeting between the teacher, the parent-teacher association and parents of the students concerned soon to resolve the issue.
Ibrahim said on Monday: “Initial investigations found that the teacher was (at first) merely advising the students to wear proper outfits instead of their contemporary version.”
“But some of the students retorted rudely and that’s when the teacher blew his top and started his tirade of inappropriate words,” added Ibrahim.
In recent weeks, the principals of SM Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra in Kulai, Johor, and SMK Bukit Selambau in Kedah have also been accused of making racial slurs. (ANI)
