Major American quilt exhibition shows Diwali quilt

Nevada (US), Feb 12 (ANI): Diwali quilt is on display at Longmont Museum & Cultural Center in Colorado (USA) in its quilts exhibition titled “America Celebrates! Quilts of Joy and Remembrance”, which will continue till March 13 and then travel nationally.This exhibit, which features small-format art quilts, curated by internationally-known contemporary quilt artist Judith Trager, represents 57 artists. Besides Diwali, it has quilts showing Halloween, 50th wedding anniversary, cultural icon Elvis Presley’s birthday, etc. Museum is also offering a class of “Creating a Memory Quilt” to train the participants on how to create a personal wall-size memory quilt to celebrate a special time.Notable Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada (USA) today, applauded the exhibition curator and Museum to include largest of Hindu festivals Diwali, the festival of lights which aims at dispelling the darkness and lighting up the lives and symbolizes the victory of good over evil.Rajan Zed, who is President of Universal Society of Hinduism, urged major art museums of the world to frequently organize Hindu art focused exhibitions, thus sharing the rich Hindu art heritage with the rest of the world.Patty Hawkins’ quilt “The Red Truck” in this exhibition celebrates a 50th wedding anniversary through a black-and- white photo transfer of a bride and groom inside a vintage truck.Run by All-America City Award winner City of Longmont, Longmont Museum & Cultural Center was founded in 1936.
