Maharaja of Mysore’s Rolls Royce to be auctioned
August 29th, 2011 - 8:50 pm ICT by IANSLondon, Aug 29 (IANS) A 100-year-old Rolls Royce owned by Krishna Raja Wodeyar IV, the erstwhile ruler of Mysore, will soon go under the hammer and is expected to fetch 400,000 pounds (around $650,000).
Krishna Raja Wodeyar bought seven Rolls Royces. The Silver Ghost 40/50hp six-cylinder car on sale was customised with colourful umbrella to shield the king’s servants from the sun, said the Daily Mail.
The royal who ordered the model in 1911 called it “Victoria”.
He was reportedly one of the world’s wealthiest men, worth an estimated 35 billion pounds at his death in 1940.
Krishna Raja Wodeyar IV was the 24th ruler from the Wodeyar dynasty, which ruled Mysore princely state from 1399 to India’s independence and unification in 1947.
The car will be auctioned by Bonhams Sep 16.
