Magnitude 6.6 quake hits New Britain region
June 16th, 2011 - 8:18 am ICT by IANSSydney, June 16 (IANS) An earthquake measuring 6.6 on the Richter scale jolted New Britain region, Papua New Guinea at 1600 GMT Thursday, the US Geological Survey said.
It’s epicentre, with a depth of 47.40 km, was initially determined to be at 6.0440 degrees south latitude and 151.3680 degrees east longitude, Xinhua reported.
New Britain forms part of the Islands Region , one of four regions of Papua New Guinea.
