Magnitude-6 quake hits Japan
November 24th, 2011 - 10:05 pm ICT by IANSBeijing, Nov 24 (IANS) An earthquake measuring 6 on the Richter scale jolted the Hokkaido region in north Japan Thursday, Xinhua reported.
The tremblor struck at 6.25 p.m., said the China Earthquake Network Centre.
The epicentre, with a depth of 40 km, was at 41.8 degrees north latitude and 142.7 degrees east longitude, a statement said.
The centre, earlier in the day, had recorded another earthquake of equal intensity in the sea off the east coast of Honshu at 3.24 a.m.
The quake, with a depth of 40 km, had its epicentre at 37.3 degrees north latitude and 141.6 degrees east longitude, it stated.
